Since its open in 1934, Brookfield Zoo has been a leading educational institution as well as a top tourism attraction with over 2 million in attendance annually. In 2007 the zoo began an extensive renovation plan. The changes at the zoo have included new animal exhibits and education centers, infrastructure improvements and a reshuffling of and renovations to existing exhibits. This nine- figure restoration project has also inspired the creation of seven beautiful mosaic artworks which have been installed in the newly renovated restrooms of the zoo.
